Racism In Carson
Dear Carson City Council:
On last week, Hanh Phan owner and operator of Tips & Toes Nail Salon, located at 647 E. University Dr. Carson, CA took to social media to write a scathing racial rant in regards to George Floyd and the subsequent protest activities that have transpired on his behalf. (See Attached)
She is friends with several of her African American patrons who saw the post, commented and shared it on various Facebook groups.
As a former resident of Carson with family ties in the city, I, like so many others, was outraged by what I was reading. In her first rant, as there were several, after she was rightfully chastised by her African American and Asian friends alike, she compares George Floyd to the Covid-19. She says and I quote, “To me Floyd is an evolved version of Covid-19, Floyd is Covid-20. Floyd is a stronger virus; he’s a can of kerosene on a already massive bonfire. So before you speak about BLM, WLM… Think about how all of this started. Just….. 2 counterfeits and a criminal mind!!!” End Quote. As I stated earlier, there were several more rants in response to the backlash she was receiving. Each one digging her deeper into her racist hole.
I decided to take action and I made a post asking who would be with me to do a peaceful protest in front of her place of business in Carson when the Governor of California reopens nail salons. I received so many responses; I had to create a Facebook group page. As of this morning, we are 400 strong. We have scheduled a group meeting via Zoom to strategize and effectively organize our peaceful protest. We also have a petition that has already garnered 475 signatures. I have named this group the “The Black Warriors for Justice” as we ban together to fight the racism that is a blemish of the great city of Carson. Hanh Phan should not be able to continue to conduct business in a city where the vast majority of her clients are African American. Carson’s rich history should not be tarnished by someone who thinks so little of our people and racial injustices.
It has already been the consensus of this group that the end goal is for Tips & Toes Nail Salon to leave the city of Carson. We are asking for the immediate termination of her lease at 647 E. University Dr. Carson, CA.
Thank you for your time and consideration and we hope to hear favorable news from you soon.
